Course Overview & Pre-requisites

Pre-requisites: Understanding of fundamental accounting principles, such as the accounting equation, double-entry bookkeeping, and the foundational structure of financial statements.

Course Summary: Corporate Financial Statements covers the advanced theoretical frameworks, recognition criteria, and practical preparation methods governing corporate financial reporting under converged Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) and Schedule III of the Companies Act, 2013.

2. Property, Plant and Equipment (Ind AS 16): Objective, scope, initial recognition, component depreciation, Cost vs. Revaluation Model (4 hrs).
3. Intangible Assets (Ind AS 38): Objective, scope, recognition criteria, research vs. development expenditure, amortization and impairment (4 hrs).

Module IIAccounting Standards for Liabilities4. Accounting for Borrowing Costs (Ind AS 23): Objective, scope, qualifying assets, specific vs. general borrowings, capitalization rate, commencement, suspension, and cessation (5 hrs).
5. Income Taxes (Ind AS 12): Objective, scope, Balance Sheet Liability Approach, temporary differences, recognition of Deferred Tax Asset (DTA) and Deferred Tax Liability (DTL) (6 hrs).

Module IIIPreparation of Single Entity Financial Statements6. Financial Statements Architecture (Ind AS 1): Objective, scope, overall requirements, complete set of financial statements, materiality and aggregation (4 hrs).
7. Statement of Profit and Loss (SOPL): Preparation of SOPL under Division II Schedule III, operating vs finance costs, OCI classification (4 hrs).
8. Balance Sheet: Classified Balance Sheet preparation, current vs non-current distinction, equity reconciliation (4 hrs).

Module IVCash Flow Statement9. Objectives & Scope of AS 3 / Ind AS 7: Statutory mandate (Sec 2(40)), benefits of cash flow data, cash and cash equivalents definition (3 hrs).

11. Reporting Methodologies: Direct method vs indirect method, treatment of interest, dividends, taxes, and non-cash transactions (4 hrs).
