Pre-requisites: A basic idea about various concepts of travel and tourism.

Course Summary: Students will gain in-depth knowledge about various travel formalities, international documentation, aviation ticketing conventions, and legal/fiscal regulations governing international travel.

Detailed Module-Wise Syllabus

Module I: Travel Documentation and Formalities10 Hours
  • Unit 1 (6 Hours): Introduction — Travel Documents for International travel — Passport, Visa, Other Travel Documents, Health travel documents, Travel itinerary details — Travel and Medical insurance — Proof of medical and Travel insurance.
  • Unit 2 (3 Hours): Air Ticket — Types, Reading & Interpreting an Air Ticket.
  • Unit 3 (3 Hours): Familiarization with Travel Information Manual Automatic (TIMATIC).
Module II: Travel Facilitation12 Hours
  • Unit 4 (2 Hours): Introduction — Role and importance of travel facilitation.
  • Unit 5 (2 Hours): Visa Facilitation models and global best practices.
  • Unit 6 (2 Hours): Facilitation by travel agents, tour operators and tour escorts.
  • Unit 7 (4 Hours): Airport Facilitation — Terminal layout, passenger flow, and special assistance.
  • Unit 8 (1 Hour): Tourist Information Centre (TIC) — Tourist Police.
  • Unit 9 (2 Hours): Medical Travel Value Facilitator (MTVF) — Role and Accreditation procedure.
Module III: Regulations Applicable to Foreigners in India9 Hours
  • Unit 10 (3 Hours): Passports — Types — Documents required and procedure for application.
  • Unit 11 (3 Hours): Types of Visas granted — Documents required and Extension of Visa.
  • Unit 12 (2 Hours): Reasons for rejection of Visas — Procedure for application.
  • Unit 13 (1 Hour): Registration of Foreigners at FRRO (e-FRRO portal & compliance).
Module IV: Air Customs and Related Regulations14 Hours
  • Unit 14 (3 Hours): Customs declaration — ATITHI mobile app — Channels of clearance (Green and Red Channel).
  • Unit 15 (2 Hours): Duty-free allowances and entitlements under Baggage Rules 2016.
  • Unit 16 (2 Hours): Dutiable goods — Import of alcohol and cigarettes as baggage.
  • Unit 17 (1 Hour): Import and export of Foreign Exchange / Currency (FEMA regulations).
  • Unit 18 (2 Hours): Prohibited and Restricted Goods under the Customs Act 1962.
  • Unit 19 (2 Hours): Penal Provisions and statutory adjudication.
  • Unit 20 (2 Hours): Immigration and Emigration Procedures (Bureau of Immigration).
Module V: Open-Ended Module for Practical Exercises, Case Study & Course Project30 Hours

Recommended Implementation Activities:

  1. Handling requests for fresh passport applications and passport renewals.
  2. Demonstrating the online passport application procedure on the Passport Seva portal.
  3. Demonstrating the use of the ATITHI mobile app for air passenger customs declaration.
  4. Conducting workshops focusing on different types of travel documents (passports, visas, insurance, ICVP vaccination records) with hands-on verification exercises.
  5. Developing real-life scenarios to verify the authenticity of travel documents and detect irregularities.
  6. Familiarizing students with online systems and tools used for passport and visa processing.
