Course Summary: The students will gain an in-depth understanding of various digital applications, platform models, and software architectures deployed in the contemporary tourism and hospitality industry.

Module I: Introduction to Digital Transformation in Tourism12 Hours
  • Unit 1 (2 Hours): Digital Transformation: Concepts and scope.
  • Unit 2 (2 Hours): Stages of digital transformation.
  • Unit 3 (8 Hours): Digital Trends in Hospitality Industry — AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ChatGPT, Chatbots, IoT (Internet of Things), VR (Virtual Reality) & AR (Augmented Reality), Voice Search, Robotics.
Module II: Digital Tourists12 Hours
  • Unit 4 (1 Hour): Digital Tourists — Meaning & definition.
  • Unit 5 (1 Hour): Digital Touch Points in Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
  • Unit 6 (2 Hours): 5 stages of Travel Consumer Journey.
  • Unit 7 (2 Hours): Tourism Apps — Advantages & Features of Mobile applications.
  • Unit 8 (2 Hours): Mobile apps as a marketing tool.
  • Unit 9 (2 Hours): Digital interpretation in cultural and heritage sites.
  • Unit 10 (2 Hours): Use of audio / video guides and multimedia applications.
Module III: Digital Economy in Tourism12 Hours
  • Unit 11 (3 Hours): Concept and main elements of digital economy in tourism.
  • Unit 12 (3 Hours): Digital platforms in hotel industry (OTAs, Meta-Search, Channel Managers, Sharing Economy).
  • Unit 13 (2 Hours): Essential features of a tourism business website.
  • Unit 14 (4 Hours): Online payment modes — internet and mobile banking, cards, wallets, m-payment interface, sharing economy platforms, blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.
Module IV: Digitalization in Hotels9 Hours
  • Unit 15 (4 Hours): Digitalization in Hotels: Advantages and applications in daily operations.
  • Unit 16 (3 Hours): Property Management System (PMS) and system interfaces.
  • Unit 17 (2 Hours): Systems used in Point of Sale (Housekeeping, Front office, Restaurant etc.) and the Night Audit process.
Module V: Open-Ended Module for Practical Exercises, Case Study & Course Project30 Hours

Recommended Implementation Activities:

  1. Conducting a structured debate on the organizational and human resource challenges faced in digital adoption across traditional hotels.
  2. Conducting in-depth case studies on international hotel brands operating in India (e.g., Marriott, Accor, and Radisson).
  3. Using online booking platforms and hospitality simulation software to teach students how to make reservations for accommodations, flights, and activities, followed by group discussion.
  4. Conducting hands-on workshops on digital marketing strategies and social media advertising specific to the travel and tourism industry.
  5. Arranging field visits to technology companies specializing in travel solutions to expose students to cutting-edge innovations in travel technology.
