Course Summary & Scope

Computer Applications in Business is a comprehensive course designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize computer technology in various business settings. The curriculum covers telecommunications and computer networking architectures, modern web design and HTML5/CSS development, e-commerce transaction models, national digital payment rails (UPI, AEPS, USSD, RTGS), cybersecurity countermeasures, and the legal framework of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Pre-requisites: Students should have a fundamental understanding of how to operate a computer and navigate through different operating systems.

Module I (15 Hours)

Computer Systems & Web Sites

Units 1–2
  • Unit 1:Computer Systems and web sites: Computer Network — Types of networks, LAN, WAN, MAN, PAN, BAN, SAN & CAN (5 Hours).
  • Unit 2:Business and web sites — Introduction to web design — Concepts — Principles involved in developing a website — Golden rules of web designing — Page design — Home page — Web standards — Role of websites in a business (10 Hours).
Module II (15 Hours)

HTML & Web Publishing

Units 3–4
  • Unit 3:Elements of HTML — Basic structure of an HTML Document — Creating an HTML Document — HTML Tags — Working with text — Working with Lists, Tables, Hyperlinks, images and multimedia — Cascading Style Sheet (10 Hours).
  • Unit 4:Web publishing or hosting — Creating the website — Saving the site — Working on the web site — Themes — Website for business growth (5 Hours).
Module III (10 Hours)

E-Commerce & Digital Payments

Units 5–6
  • Unit 5:E-Commerce, Business Models — B2B, B2C, B2G, C2C & B2E — Requirements of e-commerce website — Modes of delivery (5 Hours).
  • Unit 6:Digital payments: USSD, NUUP, AEPS, UPI, Debit card, Credit card, pre-paid cards, Internet Banking, Mobile banking, e-wallets — POS Terminals, M-POS, V-POS (5 Hours).
Module IV (8 Hours)

Digital Security & Information Technology Law

Units 7–8
  • Unit 7:Security threats in Internet & e-Commerce, Virus & Trojan horses, Phishing, Hacking, Spyware — Security Measures, Antivirus, Firewall, Encryption (4 Hours).
  • Unit 8:Bio-metrics — Precautions while using Internet & e-payments — IT Act, Major Provisions of IT Act (4 Hours).
Module V (12 Hours)

Open-Ended Module: Practical with HTML

Lab & Web Project

Practical applications using HTML — Web designing — Developing business websites using HTML and responsive styling.

Suggested Practical Exercises:
  1. Creating a multi-page corporate website with semantic HTML5 tags and CSS external styling.
  2. Developing responsive product catalog tables, registration forms with client-side validation, and navigation menus.
  3. Simulating payment gateway workflows and integrating web analytics tracking code.
